Milwaukee 28-volt cordless Lithium circular saw #0730-22

The Milwaukee lithium V28 circular saw $360 is the best cordless circular saw - you can build a house with it.

The Milwaukee has a 6.5-inch blade and uses lithium-ion batteries for outstanding performance and battery life. Reviews say it outperforms other cordless circular saws by a wide margin, and offers the same excellent balance, comfort and solid construction as corded Milwaukee saws. The saw is guaranteed for five years, the batteries for two (twice as long as other batteries).

The drawback is the high price - but bought with other rechargeable tools using the same batteries reduces the cost. Milwaukee was first out of the gate with a line of cordless tools using the new lighter and stronger lithium-ion batteries.

Mike Guertin, circular saw reviewer for Fine Homebuilding, says he seldom uses a corded circular saw for his remodeling jobs anymore, finding the 28-volt Milwaukee offers enough power and stamina, and much more comfort and convenience. This lithium-powered cordless circular saw incorporates the best features of the corded Milwaukee sidewinder saws, but weighs over a pound less (with battery). The lithium-ion battery means that the saw runs at full power till the last bit of battery charge is used up; there's no gradual fading. (A fuel gauge on the battery tells how much power remains.) Milwaukee guarantees the V28 batteries for two years instead of the standard one-year; the saw itself has a five-year warranty.

This revolutionary saw has the most power of any cordless saw on the market. Nothing can top the performance of this tool in terms of speed of cutting or overall run time. In addition, this saw comes standard with tactile grips for even more control while cutting. The lightweight magnesium guards reduce unnecessary weight without compromising operation. The high strength aircraft aluminum shoe resists bending for accuracy and dependability.

Buying advice circular saws

Battery-powered saws offer go-anywhere convenience, but there's a reason you aren't likely to see professional carpenters using them: Plug-in saws are far more capable. Circular saws are a mainstay for quickly cutting the two-by-fours and plywood used in many popular home-improvement projects. Most cordless saws don't cut quickly, but are more convenient. After drills, circular saws are the most common power tool in a home workshop.
